Stian Roland

Biography

Stian Roland is a Valdres tradition bearer whose work as a dancer and teacher centers on the region’s folk dances, including Valdresspringar. He is an assistant professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway, where he coordinates the bachelor’s program in folk dance, bringing lived tradition into his work as an educator and scholar.

Stian has won the couple-dance competition at Landskappleiken three times. Together with his wife Tone, he researched the Bonde tradition and went on to teach and perform the dance, helping renew interest in the form.

At Ski Dance Weekend 2027, Stian will teach Valdres Springar and Bonde alongside his daughter Ingrid, who has learned from him since early childhood. Their shared teaching is a vivid example of these traditions passing between generations.
